OPEN AND HANDICAP PAIRS COMPETITION

This competition now runs from January to December in any one year on designated 'Pairs' evenings - which from 2000/01 are almost always on the 4th Tuesday of the Month. Pairs must now compete on at least 6 of these evenings out the 10 available to qualify. The Pair with the highest average of their best 6 scores wins the OPEN competition. The Pair with the highest average score less their handicap wins the HANDICAP competition. Handicaps are derived from that Pair's scores over the preceding 3 seasons, where possible. A Handicap Policy has been agreed from 28th January 2008 that states that -

Ø Handicaps for Club Members will be calculated from the average of the previous three years results in the pairs competition, where possible.

Ø The method of calculation and the proposed handicaps will be presented to the General Committee for ratification prior to publication.

Ø Club Members entering the pairs competition for the first time must have played at the club, either as individuals for at least twelve times, or as a pair for at least six times, (during the preceding two years) before January 1st of the competition year for a handicap to be allocated.

Ø New or current Members can enter the Open Pairs competition at any time in the competition year.
