BRIDGE by Malcolm Simpson

CHRISTMAS COMPETITION

NOTE- EVENIF YOU ARE NOT A BRIDGE PLAYER, YOU CAN STILL TAKE PART!

This year I am leaving it all to my readers. There are two questions and two prizes, one for each question.Non-bridge players are welcome to attempt Question 2.

Question 1(Prize- £5)

What is the most original and amusing deal you have come across while playing bridge?

(N.B.I will be looking specifically for ORIGINALITY and AMUSEMENT.The standard of bridge will be of little consequence.)

I will normally expect details of all four hands. However, if your story can be told adequately with reference to only two relevant hands actually shown, this will be acceptable.

Question 2(Prize - Bottle of wine)

Complete the following limerick in the most apt and amusing way.

"There was a young bridge-crazy Brummie

Who was clever at playing the dummy.

………………………….

………………………….

………………………………………….."

Closing date for entries:Tuesday 6 January 2004.My decision is final.

The winner of Question 1 will receive £5 and his or her entry will be published in the January or February Bridge Column.I reserve the right to use other answers to Question One in later Bridge Columns.Should I decide to do so, I will acknowledge the contestant concerned and reward him or her with a £5 cheque.

The winner of Question 2 will receive a bottle of wine. His or her entry will be published in the January bridge column, along with all other entries that I judge to be highly recommended, bridge related and acceptable for printing in a family newspaper (but please don't hold back on the double entendre!).
