Hand of the Month
July 2009
Well.... how did you play the hand? You were fortunate not to have received a spade lead and this has given you some extra chances. However, let me show you the whole deal....

Well, what did you do? The point of the hand is that the contract is now cold for 12 tricks if you can make four diamond tricks - so you must do your utmost to ensure that is the case. I was watching my three star partner think about the hand - then sure enough he (or she!) won the heart lead in hand with the King and then made the critical play of the Ace of Diamonds, dropping the singleton Queen and ensuring four tricks in the suit. Thank you partner - ~$20 into my on-line account!
You didn't win in dummy and lead the diamond 10 did you? Or win in hand and lead a low diamond to the 10? If you did you would be counting the losses....... Most of the time you would get away with it.....
